Writing Music Monday: Tales of a Dead Fish by The Freak Fandango Orchestra

[cover] The Freak Fandango Orchestra - Tales Of A Dead FishI can’t quite get into the Halloween mood this year. Which for me is distinctly strange.

However, All Hallow’s Eve is this week, so to at least simulate that spirit, I submit this.

It’s gypsy jazz. And punk. And, well, weird. Any album with two versions of something called “Hitman’s Love Song” is just about perfect for the season, wouldn’t you say?

There are vocals, but what the hell, ’tis a week to relax and enjoy before diving into NaNoWriMo.

Here’s what the Freak Fandango Orchestra says about themselves:

The Freak Fandango Orchestra is a multi-ethnic balkan-gypsy-punk band from Barcelona (Spain). The band exists since 2006 and is performing live since 2007. You can see them a lot around Barcelona but they also play at international venues, like for example at the New York Gypsy Festival 2011.

Their music is a explosive mixture of folk, polka, gypsy music from the Balkans and punk-rock. The band is composed by musicians with lots of different instruments (guitar, bass, drums, violin, saxophone, trumpet, accordion and percussion).
