Writing Music Monday: Namouche by Special Quartet

[cover] Special Quartet - NamoucheSecond album for the day finds me returning to my jazzy ways, and violating a licensing preference.

“Namouche” connotes gypsy jazz, but that’s misleading. There are a few tracks here that are gypsy influenced, but it’s mostly post-bop, standard small group-style jazz, starting with the first track. It’s all solid, professionally delivered, and works very well indeed.

As to the license, I shy away from “No Derivatives” licenses, which prevent you from even posting songs you like to Youtube, as a video including the song is a derivative work. But this album is so good, it must be shared, restrictive license or no.

You can download Namouche free from Jamendo, or throw money at the band through CDBaby (but no CD, it’s download-only).
